Baxter International recalled nine lots of its 1000/unit ml multi-dose vials in January of 2008 after receiving numerous reports of patients suffering serious allergy-type side effects after being administered Baxter-made Heparin. Some of those symptoms included:
In February of 2008, the FDA stated that Baxter International would recall all of its products containing Heparin. This recall was made after Heparin had been linked to approximately 400 nearly fatal adverse reactions and up to 21 deaths following the use of the defective product. The FDA discovered that the Heparin imported from a Chinese factory was defective due to the lack of inspection at the Chinese plant where the active ingredient in Heparin was manufactured.
