ReNu MultiPlus was developed as an all purpose solution that would permit the contact lens wearer to clean, rinse, store, remove protein, and disinfect contact lenses all at the same time.

May Cause Blindness

ReNu MultiPlus has been linked to Fusarium Keratitis, a fungal infection of the eye that affects the cornea. This condition can cause eye pain, decreased vision, light hypersensitivity, and in more serious cases, permanent blindness.

The Fusarium fungus is very tricky due to the complexity of developing lab cultures to detect it. The fungus can be slow-growing; lab culture results can take weeks to develop. To further complicate the matter, the medicine used to treat such infection is not widely stocked. Most pharmacies must order the drug which means more delay. During all this time the fungus is damaging the victim’s eye more and more. If the Fusarium Keratitits is not cured by antifungal drugs, patients may have to undergo surgery to remove the fungal ulcers or lesions from the eye.
